Trip to OKC

On Wednesday Mike, Kaitlyn, and I packed the car to go to Oklahoma City for two days to find a place to live. We left the dogs at home, since much of the trip would be spent in the car. It took us about 7 hours to get there. On our way up, we got a call from one of the leasing agents we planned to see a few houses with, she told us "two of the three places were rented now, and if we wanted to see the 3rd house it was open and we could just walk in and look." So now we only had two houses to look through. After we had some dinner, we drove around town trying to find houses or duplexes to rent (this also helped us to get to know the area a little better). We found one more house, but it started to get dark out, so we decided to call it a night and get an early start the next morning.

We went through the first house at 10am. The landlord said he had one other property in the area he would like to show us. We both liked the property, but we didn't want to say yes after only seeing two houses. Just a few houses down (on the corner) from the first property was the house we saw the night before. There was a man edging the grass, so Mike talked to him to see if we could see the house. We were told to come back at 2:30, because the landlord would be here to show the house. Then we started driving through every neighborhood possible! Mike saw a subdivision across the street that looked nice, and before we got to it I saw duplexes for rent. We wrote the number down, and saw that the office was open at 2, so we continued to drive around looking for more places until 2, when we could come back and see the duplex.


In the neighboring subdivision (the one Mike saw) we found a house to look through. It wasn't bad, but it needed some things fixed (closet door, bathtub, fence, etc). The best part was the back yard at this house; it was a BIG fenced in yard it would be great for the dogs. We didn't like the fact that there was a half bath in the master bedroom, but it was better than having just one bathroom. So we thought it wouldn't be all bad to live here if they could fix a few things. After we had looked through a couple houses, it was time to check out the corner house. It was really nice, but it was just a little above our budget, so a little bummed we headed to the duplex.

The landlord was really nice. After a little small talk, we went to the duplex. It was so nice inside!!! The only thing available to see was a 2 bedroom 2 bath, but there would be a 3 bedroom 2 bath available to rent when we move. Mike and I both really liked the place. I told Kaitlyn, this is it! This is the place! After we walked though, we decided to think about the duplex, and see if there was any other places we should check out before we made a decision. We looked at the house we were scheduled to see (and were told we could just walk in and look), but neither of us were impressed. After a long day of looking, we headed back to the hotel and rested before dinner. We met up with my college roommate (and one of my bridesmaids) Rachel and her fiance, Brett. Rachel is originally from Edmond, but moved to Michigan in high school, then just recently moved back to the area! I am excited that I already have a good friend in the area!! We had a good time with them. I'm glad that we were able to see Rachel (and meet Brett) during our short trip.


Now it's Friday, the day we are driving back to Texas. Mike and I drove around town and looked at one last house, and decided that the duplex was perfect for us!! Both of us wanted to fill out the application and give the landlord our security deposit before everything was rented! So we had a little time to kill before 2 o'clock, and drove up to the school and walked around a little bit. University of Central Oklahoma really reminded us of Central Michigan University! There was even a t-shirt that said "Central" on it (not in school colors) and Mike and I both thought of CMU! It is a very nice campus, and Mike is really excited about being a part of their faculty.

Now here's the most exciting part of the whole trip... We got a place to live! This may sound like an advertisement, but we want to share a little bit about the home. We will be living in Mill Valley Duplex Homes in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage (with openers) duplex. It is 1350 sq ft, with a full size washer and dryer IN THE UNIT and all appliances. The kitchen has lots of cupboard space and a nice size pantry. There is a little back yard for the puppies, patio for BBQing, a fireplace (for those cold Oklahoma nights), alarm system, 9 foot ceilings and walk-in closets. The yards are also very appealing and trimmed. Guess what?? We don't have to mow! The yards in the community are mowed once a week by a landscaping company. How wonderful is that??
