Proud Walker

Jacob is getting some practice walking around the house with his shopping cart. He is so proud of himself! He's right on track to be walking at 1. It's starting to be a lot more work to watch two kids... two mobile... two always getting into something... mom doesn't get a minute to sit down. haha

Jacob is 9 months!

Jacob turned 9 months old while Grandma and Grandpa were here. He is quite the impressive little dude :)

He has started to walk with assistance! Jacob gets a big proud grin on his face while he does it too. It's so precious! Here's two videos of Jacob going from driving to walking :)

On Tuesday, we had our 9 month well check up. Here's his stats:
weight: 17 pounds 12 ounces (5%)
height: 27 inches (11%)

Those aren't typos. Like Kaitlyn at 6 months to a year, Jacob hasn't really gained much weight. The doctor didn't sound too concerned, since his development isn't behind. He just has a high metabolism.

We are starting to introduce more table foods to him, since he can pretty much have anything but cow's milk. However, we are finding that he seems to be kind of picky. He doesn't like the texture of table food, but he loves feeding himself. So as of right now, he is eating puffs, mum mums, yogurt bites, Cheerios, pasta (sometimes) and bananas. We have tried bread and cheese, but he spits that back out. We won't give up! Baby food gets expensive and he can eat a lot of it!

Almost a month ago, I noticed that Jacob didn't seem satisfied after nursing. I thought it might be time to start weaning and supplement formula. So when we went to Florida, I took some formula with me just in case, and we used up everything I brought. As of now, Jacob nurses two times a day and has 3 (4 to 6 ounce) bottles.

Food is only the beginning to what this little guy is up to these days. He can entertain himself for enough time that I can do some chores around the house without holding him. Kaitlyn is also very interested in playing with Jacob. I have to remind her to be gentle, but they are starting to play well together. It's really precious to see their relationship forming.

A few other things that Jacob is doing: crawling like a pro, jabbering, loves to go for walks in the stroller, exploring the house, get into the dog food, giving hugs and kisses, and still loves balls and wheels. He definitely is all boy! We can totally see the difference in the things he likes compared to the things Kaitlyn liked at this age. Parenthood with two is quite a challenge, and is NOT easy, but what an incredible blessing our kids are!

OKC ZOO

This was a very special trip to the zoo, Daddy, Grandma and Grandpa were all joining us! The kids and I go often (twice a month usually) with our playgroup. Kaitlyn LOVES seeing the animals! We are able to go so often because we have a zoo pass, which gets 2 adults and 5 kids in for free. What's even better... it's actually Olive Garden's zoo pass, and we can check it out like a library book :) There are two passes available, so we checked them both out and got everyone in for free!

It was a hot day, but all the animals were out enjoying the sun. This was also Daddy's first time to our zoo. We had to show him all our favorite places :)

We passed the Rinos, and made our way to see the Lions!

Kaitlyn kept her eyes on the animals

Our next stop was The Oklahoma Trails. This part of the zoo is really interesting/scary. Every animal on this trail is found somewhere in Oklahoma.
What would you do if you found a cougar in your backyard?

walking the trails

Jacob likes seeing the animals so close!

The Great Horned Owl! In the nocturnal barn there are also bats, a skunk, possum, spiders and snakes just to name a few.

Coming around to see the Bears!

Yes, this lovely animal can be found in Oklahoma :)

Along with this beautiful Black Bear

The Bald Eagle. Proud to have this bird in OK

the Eagle's wing span can get up to 7 feet long! That's what everyone, but Jacob is looking at :)

Alligators :)
Since we've been in Oklahoma, our zoo hasn't had Elephants. They have been in Tulsa getting them pregnant so we can have more Elephants. While they were gone, our zoo built a brand new exhibit for them (it opened March 11). It's STUNNING! We have a baby Elephant due next month :) It's been so awesome to see baby animals! Last year, there was a baby giraffe :)
Beautiful Elephants!

They have 4 different areas outside to play in :)

Since it was so hot, the elephants tried to stay cool with a mud-bath

Kaitlyn had fun riding on Grandpa's shoulders almost the whole time we were there.

The zoo was fun, but everyone needed a nap once we got home.

A child's prayer

Last Friday night, I tucked Kaitlyn in her bed and asked her to say her bedtime prayers. She prayed, "Dear God, help me sleep and feel better. Amen." I asked her if there was anything else she wanted to pray for. She continues, "Dear God, Thank you for today, and for food. And tomorrow we go to the zoo, and see our friends, and play my game. Amen."

Her prayers are always so precious and sweet. I had to share with Grandpa and Daddy what Kaitlyn prayed for. Grandpa said, "I could go to the zoo." Daddy says, "Sure, I'll go."

Well... her prayers were answered. We went to the zoo :)

California company

After a long weekend trip to Florida, it was time to get back into the groove of things before we have visitors, Grandma and Grandpa Landis were coming! We actually haven't seen them (other than webcam) since Jacob was born!

We took a mini day trip to Prague, OK to visit Grandpa's distant cousin Landis. She is also really good friends with his sister, my Aunt Barbara.

We had lunch at Cinderella's Royal Table, inside the castle. I brought Kaitlyn's Cinderella dress and shoes to wear. We changed right before lunch. She makes such a beautiful princess!
